Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the team knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could help the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.
