Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
